    • Special air quality statement issued for Peel Region
      BRAMPTON, Ont, . – August 2, 2025. Environment and Climate Change Canada and Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks have issued a special air quality statement for Peel Region due to wildfire smoke., The warning will be in effect until further notice., Air quality is expected to reach the high-risk category on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI). Poor air quality from wildfire smoke can last for several hours to several days., Who is most at risk, Some people are more likely to be affected by wildfire smoke, including: People with heart or lung conditions Older adults Children and teenagers Pregnant people Indigenous Peoples People who smoke People living with lower incomes Outdoor workers If you are in one of these groups, reduce or reschedule outdoor physical activity., Possible health effects, Wildfire smoke can harm everyone’s health, even at low levels. Watch for symptoms such as irritated eyes, nose or throat, coughing, wheezing or asthma attacks, headaches or dizziness, and shortness of breath or chest pain. If symptoms persist or get worse, seek medical attention. If you are feeling stress, anxiety or depression related to the smoke, reach out for help., How to protect yourself, Limit outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise. Check on family and friends who may be susceptible to smoke. Keep windows and doors closed. Use the fan setting on your ventilation system and set it to recirculate air. Avoid using air purifiers that produce ozone. Reduce energy use and avoid unnecessary vehicle trips.
