We strive, through proactive planning and forward thinking, to optimize, upgrade and expand Peel’s wastewater treatment system to meet community needs.
Peel’s 2020 Water and Wastewater Master Plan (2020 Master Plan) outlines our strategy to ensure that wastewater infrastructure services keep meeting treatment needs from 2020 to 2041.
Notice of study completion
The Environmental Study Report (ESR) for the Clarkson Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) is being made available for public review for a period of 30 calendar days, from May 31st, 2023 to June 30th, 2023, in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (2000, as amended). The ESR documents the environmental assessment process completed, including the evaluation of alternative solutions and technologies, anticipated environmental impacts, mitigation measures, consultation completed throughout the study, and commitments for future work. Please see below for website links to the ESR and respective appendices. Please circulate all comments to the Project Manager at ClarksonEA@peelregion.ca by June 30th, 2023.

An Environmental Assessment is a type of study that assesses the environmental impacts of a project and how to best minimize those impacts.
The Region has initiated a Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Clarkson WWTP.
This study:
- Is needed to address the long-term servicing needs as identified in Peel’s 2020 Water and Wastewater Master Plan.
- Will take approximately 18 months to complete.
- Is happening at the same time as the G.E. Booth WWTP Class EA because the system that collects and conveys the wastewater is an integrated system.
The solutions developed through this Class EA will be integrated with the solutions developed for the G.E. Booth WWTP Class EA to encompass the entire system.
Study goals and objectives
This study is following the Municipal Class EA process for Schedule C projects.
The goal of the Class EA is to develop an innovative, sustainable and flexible treatment solution by:
- Identifying an overall integrated plan for treating future wastewater needs in Peel, in conjunction with the G.E. Booth WWTP Class EA Study.
- Establishing treatment requirements for the Clarkson WWTP to the year 2041, with a vision for the longer term beyond 2041.
- Effectively communicating and consulting with the public and stakeholders.
Study area
The Clarkson WWTP Class EA Regional study area includes the entire wastewater system.
The local study area is the plant site and surrounding area.
