    The process will provide the Region with a basis to make sound decisions to service current and future growth that addresses existing issues and the expected impacts of climate change.

    The Stormwater Servicing Master Plan will provide an environmental and community focused vision to address existing and future stormwater servicing needs aligned with the Region’s Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) which identifies strategies to service future growth to 2041 and is in the process of being updated to identify strategies to 2051. This Plan will be updated in tandem with future LRTP updates.

    Ownership of stormwater infrastructure is shared between the Region of Peel and its three lower tier municipalities: Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. This assignment will focus specifically on the stormwater infrastructure located on regional roads that is owned and maintained by the Region.

    This study is being planned in accordance with the Master Planning process as set out in Section A.2.7 of the Municipal Engineer Association (MEA) Class EA (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 & 2015). This approach involves the preparation of a Master Plan document at the conclusion of Phase 1 and 2 of the Class EA process.

    Objectives

    The main objectives for the Regional Stormwater Servicing plan are to:

    • Create a comprehensive stormwater servicing strategy;
    • Develop computer model(s) to assess and analyze the system;
    • Establish levels of service framework to understand risks;
    • Evaluate the strategies ability to meet level of service objectives while balancing cost efficiency;
    • Develop an optimal implementation plan based on the evaluation; and,
    • Prepare a Master Plan document for Phase 1 and 2 of the Class EA process which will be made available for public review and comment.

    This Master Plan is funded through a grant from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) of Infrastructure Canada. The CWWF is a federal-provincial program designed to accelerate short-term community investments, while supporting the rehabilitation and modernization of drinking water, wastewater & stormwater infrastructure, and the planning and design of future facilities and upgrades to existing systems.

    This Fund is improving the safety and quality of water for Canadian families, while supporting a clean economy. Through CWWF, Infrastructure Canada provides communities with more reliable water and wastewater systems so that both drinking water and effluent meet legislated standards
