    School Health Program

Peel school boards and Peel Public Health are partners in creating healthy choices for students.

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, Peel District School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, and Peel Public Health are partners in creating and sustaining healthy school environments and school communities that contribute to the well-being of children and youth in Peel.

    Our role

Peel Public Health collaborates with schools to create sustainable healthy environments that promote well-being and contribute to student achievement. The Peel Public Health Nurse:

    • Meets with the principal to discuss the school's current state and the program offerings that can help the school reach their health goals.
    • Provides schools with resources and support throughout the school year.
    • Builds relationships with the school community by engaging students, staff, and parents.
    • Meets with principals throughout the year to see if there are any additional areas where support is needed to ensure school success.

    Examples of programs we offer:

Playground Activity Leaders in Schools (PALS): a playground leadership program for elementary schools that encourages all students to participate in activities regardless of their gender, size, or ability. Program content has been revised to include equity and inclusion, accessibility, and mental health promotion, and physical activity.

Healthy Hydration: a comprehensive strategy to promote good oral health and healthy hydration by offering curriculum support, communication strategies and interactive activities.

Youth Empowering Students for Mental Health: a youth engagement program for secondary schools that creates safe and welcoming school environments to positively impact students’ mental wellbeing.

    Helping you succeed

We will provide you with resources to support your success. You will be able to engage your students and staff by identifying and adapting fun activities that can easily be applied in the classroom and throughout the school.

Contact your school Peel Public Health Nurse to learn more about our programs and how to implement them at your school.

If you have any questions or need more information email Peel Public Health or call 905-799-7700, Caledon 905-584-2216, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
