Using your recycling bin
Using your recycling (blue) bin and placing it at the curb.
Recycling is collected every other week. Check your collection calendar for your pickup day.
This information applies to you if your address receives bin-based collection.
If you do not have garbage or recycling bins, visit Bag-based collection.
This video shows how to recycle plastic, paper, and other items:
Putting recyclable items in your bin
- You can dispose of recyclable items your bin or in a transparent or clear blue plastic recycling bag.
- Always empty and rinse your recyclable items before putting them in your bin.
- Put recyclables loose in your recycling bin. If you live in an apartment or condo, put your recyclable items in your building's recycling bin.
Placing your bin at the curb
When you place your bin at the curb:
- Leave at least 1 m (3 ft.) of space around your bin.
- Make sure the bin lid is closed.
- Face the bin handles towards your home and point the arrows towards the street.
- Do not place your bin in or on top of a snowbank.
Extra recycling
If your recycling bin is full, put excess recyclable items in a transparent or clear blue plastic recycling bag. Excess bags of recyclables do not need tags.
Extra cardboard
Excess cardboard must be bundled and measure less than 90 cm x 90 cm (36 in. x 36 in.) to be collected from the curb.
