    Water connection permit for temporary non-potable

    Peel Region lets you use water from a temporary connection at a specific site for a maximum of one year per time.

    Apply for this permit if your company needs a temporary water source for building or construction purposes within the Peel Region.

    Eligibility

    This permit:

    • Is site-specific and available only for construction projects.
    • It is not meant for residential use (for example, filling swimming pools).

    Your construction site should be vacant while applying for the permit. To be eligible for this permit, you need to:

    • Use water that is within the site-specific area that you applied for.
    • Provide your equipment. This includes a reduced pressure principle (RP) backflow, a certified meter, and any other equipment as needed.
    • Provide a suitable water source that meets all the current regulations and requirements of the Peel Region. This is for operational compliance regarding the connection, valving, standard equipment, and a suitable location.

    What you need

    Peel Region requires all the necessary permits for the construction site. The building permits are available at your local municipality office in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

    You also need a:

    • Temporary Non-Potable Take Water Application.
    • Certificate of Insurance.
    • Reduced Pressure Principal Backflow Assembly.
    • Certified water meter with a calibration report.
    • Secondary valve to operate the assembly.

    Fees

    There is a yearly fee of $267 + HST.

    Water usage fees are based on the current water consumption rate and are subject to change. It also includes an additional valving fee to turn the water supply on or off.

    • Pay in person
    • Pay online through the Peel Region portal
    • Call 905-791-7800 ext. 3101 to pay by Visa or Mastercard.

    How to apply

    To apply and receive this permit, you need to:

    1. Fill out the Temporary Non-Potable Take Water Permit Application and email any relevant forms such as the certificate of insurance and calibration reports.
    2. Wait for us to review your application and to hear back from the backflow department.
    3. Pay the application fees and deposit (if applicable).
    4. Schedule an installation with the Peel Region Operations Department. Once we receive and review your application, we will inform you who to contact depending on the area you applied the permit for.

    Validity

    The permit is valid only for 12 months from the date of approval.

    Renewal

    If you need more time, you can request to renew your permit for another 12 months.

    To qualify for the renewal, you need to email us a copy of the approved backflow prevention device test report.

    As a permit holder, you are responsible for installing an insulated box to protect the water connection device from damage during freezing weather conditions.
