Peel Region introduces strategic plans for Health Services programs
BRAMPTON, ON (November 26, 2024) - Following the presentation of Peel Region’s Strategic Agenda 2024-2027 to Council in October, Peel Region is proud to release the Peel Regional Paramedic Services Strategic Plan 2024-2028 and the Seniors Services Strategic Plan 2024-2029. Both plans align with the existing Public Health Strategic Plan, now in its fourth year.
Developed with insights gathered from a variety of internal and external stakeholders through surveys, interviews and focus groups, the plans ensure each division delivers on Peel Region priorities in alignment with the Health Services’ vision of Building a Healthier Community Together.
All plans describe strategic goals and initiatives to be implemented over the next few years to address various health system pressures, ensuring Health Services can continue to meet the evolving needs of Peel’s diverse, growing and ageing communities.
Advancing health equity, promoting mental well-being and health system integration are common threads in all three plans. In fact, the plans emphasize the importance of working closely with health system and social services partners to deliver integrated and person-centred care that takes into account individual needs and preferences.
Examples of initiatives the divisions will undertake in 2025 to support the delivery of integrated, person-centred care include Peel Regional Paramedic Services’ efforts to build expertise to help identify and support seniors living with dementia; Adult Day Services (ADS) plans to adopt the emotion-based care approach currently used in Peel’s Long Term Care Centres to connect meaningfully with ADS clients; and Peel Public Health’s plans to work with Seniors Services to provide dental treatment at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor.

Quotations
Our Health Services strategic plans speak to a reality that – across Paramedics, Seniors Services and Public Health – we’re focussed on serving the same people and addressing the same complex problems in the community. We contribute to Community for Life by working with service areas across Peel Region, partnering with the community and collaborating across the health system to support healthy, safe and connected lives.
Nancy Polsinelli, Commissioner of Health Services
For 20 years, residents have relied on Peel paramedics to be at their door in an emergency. This strategic plan will allow us to continue providing the emergency care residents have come to rely on, and adopt new approaches focusing on improving the quality of life for residents and staff. As Paramedic Chief, I look forward to ushering in a new era of out-of-hospital care in Peel.
Brian Gibson, Chief and Director, Peel Regional Paramedic Services
Seniors are the fastest growing age group in Peel region with one in five residents expected to be over the age of 65 by 2041. Our strategic plan will help us stay focused on priorities as we support a seniors’ population with increasingly complex care needs.
Donna Kern, Director, Seniors Services Development Division
We recognize the importance of collaboration and partnership in advancing health equity and access to care. We are committed to supporting health system integration and forming strategic partnerships that promote innovative approaches to improving access to care, while reducing reliance on emergency services.
Ann-Marie Case-Volkert, Director, Long Term Care Division
Collaboration is a cornerstone of promoting health in our community and protecting vulnerable residents in Peel. By aligning our efforts across Peel’s Health Services and working with community partners, we can address residents’ pressing health needs. This unified and integrated approach strengthens our efforts toward a healthier future for families.
