Setting out yard waste
You can put your yard waste in yard waste bags or in clearly marked bins or containers.
This video provides an overview of placing yard waste at the curb:
Using yard waste bags
We collect only Kraft brown bags because they're specifically designed for yard waste.
To be collected, a Kraft yard waste bag must:
- Weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs) when full.
- Have enough room at the top to be closed when full.
- Be smaller than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high.
Plastic bags filled with yard waste will not be collected.
Using containers or bins
A bin or container used for yard waste collection must:
- Weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs) when full.
- Have rigid handles.
- Measure less than 60 cm (24 in) wide and 95 cm (38 in) high.
- Have a maximum capacity of 125 L (27.5 gallons).
- Be clearly labelled "yard waste" with a marker or sticker.

Help protect pollinators
Pollinators are animals that help plants make new seeds by moving pollen from one flower to another. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are all common pollinators.
Leaves, stems, and brush provide shelter for pollinators during winter.
By changing when and how you care for your yard, you can help pollinators stay safe and healthy during colder weather.
In Fall
Leave some fallen leaves, plant stems, and small brush in your yard. This helps give pollinators safe places to hibernate during the winter months.
In Spring
Wait to clean up your yard until it’s consistently 15 °C or warmer. This delay gives hibernating insects time to come back out before their habitat is disturbed.
