Sizes and types of bins
This video provides an overview of choosing the right bin size.
Homes that receive bin-based collection have one of the following:
- organics bin and kitchen container
- recycling bin
- garbage bin
Organics bin and kitchen container
All residents use a 100 L organics bin. It is only available in one size.
Organics Bin
100 L, 22 gal.
- Height: 99 cm (3 ft 3 in)
- Depth: 64 cm (2 ft 1 in)

Kitchen Container
- Height: 23.2 cm (9 1/8 in)
- Depth: 23.2 cm (9 1/8 in)

Recycling bin
Recycling bins are also available in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large.
Small Recycling Bin
120 L, 32 gal. Holds approximately 2 blue boxes.

- Width: 51 cm (1 ft 8 in)
Medium Recycling Bin
240 L, 64 gal. Holds approximately 4 blue boxes.

Large Recycling Bin
360 L, 95 gal. Holds approximately 6 blue boxes.

Garbage bins are available in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large.

Serial numbers
On the side of each bin is a serial number that you can record for future reference in case a bin goes missing or is damaged.
- Each bin also has a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag.
- RFID tags help us keep track of bins in case they are lost, stolen, or broken.
