    Other events affecting travel

How extreme weather and statutory holidays can affect travel bookings.

If you would like to travel on a statutory holiday or the day after the holiday, you must call 905-791-1015 and book by 7 p.m. the day before the holiday.

For example, if your travel day is Monday, October 7 (Thanksgiving Day statutory holiday) OR Tuesday, October 8 (the day after the statutory holiday) your booking deadline is the same: 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.

To cancel your trip on a statutory holiday, call us at 905-791-1015.

One week before each statutory holiday, we will provide information on how booking hours and service are affected.

    On statutory holidays:

    • The TransHelp administrative office is closed.
    • All subscription trips are cancelled, except for dialysis trips.
    • No same-day trips are accommodated.
    • A message will be posted on the website, appear when you log in, and play on the phone when you call 905-791-1015.

Safety is our number one priority. Help keep yourself and your driver safe this winter.

    Winter travel tips

    • Check the forecast before you head out.
    • Dress for the weather.
    • Turn your outdoor lights on.
    • Clear snow and ice from your driveway, ramp, and stairs.

    Severe Weather Day

TransHelp will declare a Severe Weather Day when ice or significant snowfall is expected to impact service.

    On Severe Weather Days:

    • Poor road conditions can result in late pickups and arrivals.
    • Same-day trips are not provided.
    • Trips can be cancelled up to 2 hours before the start of the pick-up window without being charged the fare.

When a Severe Weather Day is called, we will:

    • Post an alert online.
    • Play a message on the IVR phone system.

On Severe Weather Days, we ask that you:

    • Call your destination to make sure it's still open.
    • Make sure your driveway, ramp, and stairs are clear of snow and ice.
    • Call the IVR or login online to confirm your trip details in case of delays.
    • Cancel your trip online by logging into your Transhelp account.
    • Cancel using the IVR by calling 905-791-1015, then pressing 1.

Safety is our number one priority. Help keep yourself and your driver safe in extreme heat.

    • Check the forecast before heading out.
    • Stay hydrated, bring water when traveling.
    • Bring in an umbrella for shade as some waiting locations might be in the sun.
    • Dress for the weather.
    • Take a break from the heat, stay cool.
    • Travel only if necessary.

    Severe Weather Day

TransHelp will declare a Severe Weather Day for extreme heat, which may cause late pickups and arrivals.

When a Severe Weather Day is declared:

    • Same-day trips will not be provided.
    • Standby ride requests will be restricted to passengers who are travelling to a cooling centre, have a medical appointment, or are seeking relief from the heat.
    • All subscription rides will continue as normal.

When a Severe Weather Day is called, we will:

    • Post an alert online.
    • Play a message on the IVR phone system.

If you still want to travel:
