Other events affecting travel
TransHelp will issue a weather advisory when adverse weather conditions, such as hail, rain, extreme heat, or poor air quality, are expected to impact service.
Safety is our number one priority. Help keep yourself and your driver safe during extreme weather.
Winter travel
Follow these guidelines when travelling during the colder months.
- Check the forecast before you head out.
- Dress for the weather.
- Turn your outdoor lights on.
- Clear snow and ice from your driveway, ramp, and stairs.
Weather Advisory Day
TransHelp will declare a Weather Advisory Day when ice or significant snowfall is expected to impact service.
On Weather Advisory Days:
- Poor road conditions can result in late pickups and arrivals.
- Same-day trips are not provided.
- Trips can be cancelled up to 2 hours before the start of the pick-up window without being charged the fare.
When a Weather Advisory Day is called, we will:
- Post an alert online.
- Play a message on the IVR phone system.
On Weather Advisory Days, we ask that you:
- Call your destination to make sure it's still open.
- Make sure your driveway, ramp, and stairs are clear of snow and ice.
- Call the IVR or login online to confirm your trip details in case of delays.
- Cancel your trip online by logging into your Transhelp account.
- Cancel using the IVR by calling 905-791-1015, then pressing 1.
Heat Advisory
Follow these guidelines when travelling during a heat advisory:
- Check the forecast before heading out.
- Stay hydrated, bring water when traveling.
- Bring in an umbrella for shade as some waiting locations might be in the sun.
- Dress for the weather.
- Take a break from the heat, stay cool.
- Travel only if necessary.
Weather Advisory Day
TransHelp will declare a heat advisory, which may cause late pickups and arrivals.
When a Weather Advisory Day is declared:
- Same-day trips will not be provided.
- Standby ride requests will be restricted to passengers who are travelling to a cooling centre, have a medical appointment, or are seeking relief from the heat.
- All subscription rides will continue as normal.
When a Weather Advisory Day is called, we will:
- Post an alert online.
- Play a message on the IVR phone system.
If you still want to travel:
- Call your destination to make sure it’s still open.
- Call the IVR or log in to your account online to see if your trip is affected.
If you would like to travel on a statutory holiday or the day after the holiday, you must call 905-791-1015 and book by 7 p.m. the day before the holiday.
For example, if your travel day is Monday, October 7 (Thanksgiving Day statutory holiday) OR Tuesday, October 8 (the day after the statutory holiday) your booking deadline is the same: 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.
To cancel your trip on a statutory holiday, call us at 905-791-1015.
One week before each statutory holiday, we will provide information on how booking hours and service are affected.
On statutory holidays:
- The TransHelp administrative office is closed.
- All subscription trips are cancelled, except for dialysis trips.
- No same-day trips are accommodated.
- A message will be posted on the website, appear when you log in, and play on the phone when you call 905-791-1015.
