Test well water
The water from your well can become contaminated with bacteria that can make you sick. Test your well water to make sure it’s safe to drink at least 3 times a year in the spring, summer, and fall.

Eligibility
If you have a private well on your property located in Peel Region, you can have your water tested.
What you need
You will need to pick up water sample bottles from your nearest Public Health Ontario Laboratory or from one of these locations:

Fees
There is no fee for this service.
How to get well water tested
You will need to drop off your well water sample at one of these locations:

Getting your results
Public Health Ontario completes the testing.
When you drop off your water sample, you can choose if you would like to receive your test results either by phone, mail, or in person at the Public Health Ontario Laboratory. You will usually get your results in 2 to 4 business days after you dropped off your sample. Refer to Public Health Ontario’s well water testing information for details about ways to receive your results.

If you have test results that say your water is unsafe to drink, or you need help figuring out what your well water test results mean, contact Peel Public Health.
Until your well water is safe to use, drink bottled water, or treat it through boiling.
Boiling
Pour the water into a heat-resistant container or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off. Boil the water for at least 1 minute to kill all disease-causing organisms.
If your well water is contaminated with chemicals, boiling will not make it safe to drink. Use bottled water as a source of emergency drinking water.
