Water bill relief program
Peel Region has introduced a temporary Water Rate Affordability Program to provide financial relief for seniors, low-income residents, and extremely low water users facing increased water bills due to the new rate structure implemented on April 1, 2024. These credits will be applied to eligible bills from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2027. No cash payments will be provided.
A credit will be applied to your water bill if you are a senior or a low-income resident and have used less than 50 cubic metres of water, or if you are an extremely low water user and have used less than 9 cubic metres of water in a 91-day billing period. This credit will be calculated on the increase in your bill caused by the difference between the old and the new rate structures.
The credit will gradually decrease over 3 years.
- 60% credit for bills issued between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
- 40% credit for bills issued between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
- 20% credit for bills issued between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027.
If the calculated credit is less than $10, it won’t apply to your bill.
