Medical waste exemption
Peel Region provides a garbage exemption for households whose amount of garbage exceeds the garbage collection limit due to a medical condition.

Eligibility
Medical waste exemption is subject to an evaluation process.
To be eligible for this service:
- You must have a home address in Peel that receives curbside waste collection.
- The medical waste in your household must exceed the current limit for garbage due to an existing medical condition.
This medical waste must contain one or more these items :
- catheters
- colostomy tubing
- dialysis tubing
- gastric and nasal tubes
- incontinence products
- intravenous bags
- medical packaging materials
- non-hazardous medical waste
- sponges
This list of items does not include syringes, needles, and lancets waste since these are not collected at the curb.
What you need
You’ll need to provide:
- Your name, street address, date of application, phone number, and signature
- The property owner’s signature and contact details if you are not the property owner.
- A physician’s verification note with signature.
Fees
There is no cost for this service.

The service is available for temporary or permanent medical conditions.
If your household is approved for a medical waste exemption, Peel Region will provide one of 3 options:
- Upsizing the current garbage bin registered to the household. Bins will only be provided to households that are currently part of bin-based collection.
- Provide the household with one additional garbage bin . (Bin sizing will be determined on a case-by-case basis.)
- Garbage tags will be provided.
