BRAMPTON, ON (August 16, 2024) –The Peel Region delegation, consisting of the Regional Chair, Regional Council members, and senior staff, will attend the 2024 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) three-day conference from August 18-21 in Ottawa, Ontario. Peel’s team will meet with provincial ministers and senior staff to advocate on pressing issues including provincial funding shortfalls for social services, infrastructure to support housing development, and much needed funding for mental health and asylum claimants.

The AMO Conference is a key opportunity for Peel Region to engage with provincial leaders and address ongoing challenges in Peel. This annual event also features workshops and sessions designed for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Peel Region’s delegation will be meeting with several provincial Ministers and officials, including:

  • Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, and Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure to discuss the needs to compensate for shortfall in development charges and requirement to support allocation-based funding for meeting housing targets and managing growth.
  • David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to advocate for support for the development of a sustainable model for asylum claimants supported by federal and provincial funding.
  • Sylvia Jones, Minister of Health to discuss the development of a policy framework and sustainable funding for community paramedicine programs.

The delegation will also be meeting with ministers and officials from the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Transportation.
