    Become a Peel paramedic

A career as a paramedic gives you a chance to make a difference in residents' lives.

    Education and training

To qualify as a paramedic in Ontario, you must:

    • Graduate from a certified Ontario college paramedic program. To get accepted into the Ontario college paramedic program, you need to have a:
      • High school diploma
      • Senior high school science and biology
      • Current CPR C (basic rescuer level)
      • Current immunizations
    • Have a valid class-F license at the time of hiring.
    • Be hired by a paramedic service. Each service has its own recruiting program.
    • Pass the paramedic base hospital certification process.
    • Pass the provincial certification exam (Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant).

Apply to be a Peel paramedic

Are you interested in joining one of Canada's biggest and busiest paramedic services? Find out if we’re hiring.

Experienced paramedics previously employed in an Ontario paramedic service for more than 2 years (or equivalent number of hours if part-time) may be eligible to skip certain stages of the recruitment process.

This may include the written exam, scenarios, and the driving test. Instead, candidates will be asked to complete the Casper Assessment. We will notify eligible applicants once the application deadline is over.

    Stage 1: Written exam

The written exam is scheduled for January 8, 2025 at 6 p.m. EST (virtual exam)

We use Examplify, an assessment platform to conduct a comprehensive virtual written exam.

If we invite you to write the exam, you will receive a separate email from ExamSoft, the makers of Examplify. The email will have all the details and instructions to help you set up your account and download the required software to your device.

We need you to keep your cameras and microphone on throughout the exam.

Your device must meet Examplify’s minimum system requirements.

To learn more about Examplify and to troubleshoot, review the Exam-taker quick start guide and get started with Examplify (video guide).

You may only write one (1) exam on the Examplify platform.

If you’ve written an exam in December 2024 for Hamilton Paramedic Services or in January 2025 for the Halton Paramedic Services, then we will use your results from these exams for Peel Region’s recruitment process.

    Downloading Examplify:

Download Examplify using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox internet browsers only.

    Stage 2: Interviews

We will conduct virtual interviews from January 27 to February 7, 2025.

This exercise is approximately 60 minutes in duration and follows the Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) process.

    Browser requirements for virtual interviews:
Virtual interviews must be completed using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox internet browsers only.

    Stage 3: Casper Test

    (for eligible experienced paramedics only)

Casper Test dates and times: (virtual situational judgement test)

    • January 9, 2025 at 8 p.m. EST
    • January 21, 2025 at 8 p.m. EST
    • February 20, 2025 at 8 p.m. EST

You must choose one of the listed dates for your assessment. This exercise is approximately 100 to 120 minutes in duration.

You can access the Casper Assessment website to create an account, find more information, and review the system requirements. Register for the CSP-10211 - Casper 2 and select Peel Regional Paramedic Services for results distribution.

The deadline for submitting results to Peel Regional Paramedic Services is March 7, 2025.

Stage 4: Driving test and scenarios

(for new graduates and some experienced paramedics only)

The driving test is an in-person road test. Scenarios will be taking place on the same day at the same location, so please expect to be on site for multiple hours. We will be conducting both assessments from February 24 to March 7, 2025.

The driving test will be outdoors in an ambulance, while the scenarios will be indoors in a climate-controlled environment. There will be 7 scenarios, which will be marked using the Global Rating Scale (GRS).

Following these assessments, you will be required to submit all your HRI documentation.

For more information, refer to the required documentation section.

You are responsible to complete and submit all your medical, physical, and legal documents before the due dates.

We may also ask you to submit electronic copies or show the original physical documents at any time.

We can eliminate you from the recruitment process at any stage for failure to submit any requested documents.

    Physical test

To be eligible to participate in the physical test or accept a conditional offer of employment, you must submit a Physical Agility Assessment completed by the Ottawa Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (OPPAT) or the Ontario Paramedic Lifting Assessment (OPLE).

Make sure to complete your physical assessment no earlier than September 10, 2024. Test results before this date are no longer valid.

Due date: This document is needed before a job offer can be made in March.

    Medical documentation

As a part of our medical evaluation, we need you to complete the Health questionnaire.

Due date: This document should be completed by Stage 4: Driving test and scenarios.

    HRI checklist

Ensure that you have all documents outlined on the new hire pre-orientation checklist.

Bring the original documents with you to your driver’s test appointment.

If you have questions about the HRI check list, refer to HRI FAQs.

Due date: This document should be completed by Stage 4: Driving test and scenarios.

    Criminal record check

You need to have your criminal record checked less than 45 days before your driving assessment.

We will not accept vulnerable sector checks done before January 10, 2025.

Due date: This document should be completed by Stage 4: Driving test and scenarios.

Some municipalities require a signed criminal record request form from Peel Region. Confirm with your local police department if they require this form.

If so, email Peel Regional Paramedic Services to request the form or to make an appointment to pick one up.

The processing time for vulnerable sector checks vary between municipalities. Check with your local police department and plan accordingly.
