Projects 18-1380 and 11-2380 - August 24, 2022 update
Street affected: Queen Street West, Brampton
Notice for loading/unloading, deliveries to businesses
The Region of Peel has been working in your neighborhood to replace the aging watermain and sanitary sewer along Queen Street. This work is required to maintain and improve existing water and wastewater services.
At this stage in the project, the Region of Peel will be replacing the watermain under Queen Street West.
Traffic impacts
Temporary lane closures will be required to do this work, as the contractor will need to occupy the two middle lanes of Queen Street West.
Therefore, Queen Street West will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Chapel Street and Mill Street South, as illustrated in the diagram below. This work will continue from Chapel Street and Queen Street West and move west along Queen Street. This temporary lane closure will begin the week of September 6, 2022, and will last for approximately three months, depending on weather and soil conditions.
Parking impacts
On-street parking will be removed and converted into through traffic lanes. To provide an alternative parking location, parking garages in the area can used be free of charge. There are five parking garages: Nelson Square, Market Square, West Tower, City Hall and John Street Garage.
Deliveries, loading, and unloading
During the lane restrictions on Queen Street West, please avoid receiving deliveries, loading, and unloading on Queen Street West. Any deliveries, loading, or unloading for businesses and residents shall be done using:
- The temporary dedicated loading zone on Main Street South, just south of Queen Street,
- Diplock Lane or Buffy Lane.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
