Significant Weather Event
Peel Region has declared a Significant Weather Event (SWE) in response to a weather warning issued by Environment Canada. Hazardous weather conditions are expected, posing difficult driving and walking conditions.
Please stay off the roads. You may encounter difficulties driving and walking due to the hazardous road conditions. If you must travel, please drive according to road conditions, give yourself extra time, and stay back from maintenance vehicles so they can work efficiently.
Due to the severity of this weather event, the Region may not be able to meet its usual maintenance standards and service levels for clearing roads and designated bike lanes. As a result, it may take longer than usual to restore the roadway conditions back to normal service levels and cleared for travel.
For updates, visit peelregion.ca and or follow us on X (@regionofpeel). The Region will post when the declaration of the SWE has ended and service levels for winter maintenance activities will then resume.
The local municipalities, (Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga) may also declare SWE. Please visit their websites for updates on which local roads are affected.
A Declaration of a Significant Weather Event can be declared by a municipality when “a weather hazard, either forecasted or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in which they have authority” (Minimum Maintenance Standards O.Reg. 239/02).
