Peel and Calgary face off in Second Dose Coast to Coast challenge

Brampton, ON. (July 5, 2021) – Today, Region of Peel faces off with Calgary in the Second Dose, Coast to Coast challenge to increase second dose coverage across Canada.

Second Dose Coast to Coast encourages Canadians to take back summer by getting their second dose as quickly as possible. This is a way to bring us across the finish line and act as a light at the end of a very long tunnel. Dr. Loh has challenged Dr. Hu and his team from Calgary to see who can get their residents more excited about taking summer back and increasing second dose coverage in their community.

Second dose coverage is needed to help everyone get back to normal. The challenge will help to encourage Canadians to book their second dose appointment as soon as possible to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.

Health units across Canada have been invited to participate by challenging another unit to a friendly competition. Find out how to participate.

An all-night clinic will wrap up the challenge on July 10 to 11 at the Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton. This clinic will support many in our community who are only available to get vaccinated during late-night hours. Residents can book their second dose appointment today and are encouraged to share a picture of their second dose and tag @regionofpeel and use #2dosechallenge.

We’re challenging health units across the country to help take back our summer by getting their second dose as soon as possible. We need Canadians to step up and get their second dose so we can increase broad coverage across the country and protect each other.

Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region

We all want to put the pandemic behind us. The sooner we all get our second dose, the sooner we can get back to doing what we love. A little friendly competition to get us to our vaccination goal will help us take back our summer!

Dr. Hu, Chair of 19 to Zero and Calgary based public health physician.
