Region of Peel and Uber Canada partner to provide 3,000 rides to vaccine clinics

Targeted approach will help Peel's most vulnerable gain access to their first or second dose

Brampton, ON (June 17, 2021) – In partnership with the Region of Peel, Uber Canada is donating 1,500, 2-way free trips to vaccine clinics, valued at $50 each. This initiative is part of Peel's Transportation Assistance Program (TAP), which aims to remove transportation barriers that might prevent residents from getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Region of Peel is working with grass-roots community agencies to distribute the Uber vouchers to residents with limited transportation options or who cannot afford transportation to vaccination appointments. This targeted approach will provide those in our community who need it most with free, safe, direct transportation to and from a vaccination clinic.

As part of the TAP, TransHelp also continues to offer free, fully accessible, door-to-door travel for residents of any age who need transportation to get their vaccine. Residents can call 905-791-1015 between 8 a.m. and midnight, 7 days a week, to book a TransHelp trip. Trips to a vaccination clinic must be booked two days in advance of the scheduled vaccine appointment.

We want to make it even easier for residents who want a vaccine, to get a vaccine. Providing our most vulnerable residents with free, direct transportation to a clinic will help overcome transportation barriers that stand in the way of getting our community vaccinated and on the road to recovery.

Brian Laundry, COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Program Co-Lead, Region of Peel.

Transportation shouldn't be a barrier to vaccination. Uber Canada is proud to partner with the Region of Peel to support vaccination efforts and ensure that Peel's most vulnerable residents have access to a safe, convenient, and accessible means of transportation to get to and from a vaccination site.

Matthew Price, General Manager, Uber Canada.
