Urgent on-site testing initiated at Mississauga condo to control B.1.351

Brampton, ON (February 14, 2021) – To help stop the fast spreading B.1.351 variant, Peel Public Health will be conducting widespread testing of all residents at a condominium in central Mississauga on Monday. We are taking this urgent step now while community spread of this variant is still low.

To date, we can confirm there are five cases of B.1.351 variant at this location.

Testing will be conducted floor by floor Monday, February 15th from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or residents can attend a testing centre in the community.

"As we begin to see variants of concern spread within the community, we are at a critical point in the pandemic response as these variants have the ability erase the progress we have made as a community. It is imperative that residents continue to follow the guidelines of Public Health and limit interactions with others so that we can stop spread." Dr. Loh, Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.
