Peel wins Municipal Waste Association's bronze award
Peel's waste management wins Municipal Waste Association's bronze award for Promotion and Education in the large municipality Campaign category
BRAMPTON, ON (June 3, 2024) – Peel Region's organics waste campaign recently won the Municipal Waste Association's bronze award for Promotion and Education (P&E) in the Campaign category for large municipalities, which recognizes a waste management promotion and education campaign that uses various communication tools to inform, educate and motivate residents.
Informed by valuable program metrics and the use of digital and print media and targeted neighbourhood engagement, Peel's campaign addressed barriers that residents face in using the organics bin and shared easy tips on how to overcome them. The campaign was delivered during the summer, when hotter weather tends to dissuade residents from using their green bins.
Over one third of Peel's garbage contains organics that can be recovered, but instead are going to landfill which release greenhouse gases into the environment.

This is exciting news and I would like to congratulate our team for doing such a wonderful job with the organics campaign. The goal of the campaign was to address the barriers that residents face and encourage them to properly participate in the green bin program. This is important work because it aligns with Peel’s overarching long-term goal of diverting 75% of its waste from landfill by 2034.
