Projects 18-1380 and 11-2380 - July 31, 2023 update
Streets affected: Main Street South and Wellington Street, Brampton
The Region of Peel has been working in your neighbourhood to replace the watermain and sanitary sewer along Main Street South. This work is required to maintain and improve existing water services.
At this stage in the project, temporary lane reductions will be required to complete this work.
Traffic impacts
- It will be necessary to bring the new watermain into service in the middle of the Wellington Street at Main Street South, as shown in the diagram below.
- For this reason, it will not be possible to turn left from Main Street South onto Wellington Street.
- Due to the location of this work, eastbound and westbound traffic on Wellington Street will be diverted right at Main Street South, as it will not be possible to continue straight through the intersection.
- These temporary traffic restrictions have been extended untilWednesday, August 2, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
- During this work, one lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be open on Main Street South from Queen Street to Wellington Street.
During this time, traffic will be directed by police officers / a flag person. Emergency service vehicles and school buses will be permitted to cross through the closure with guidance from the onsite contractor.
We apologize for any delays or inconvenience resulting from these traffic impacts.
On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. traffic will go back to the previous traffic set up:
- There will be no closures on Wellington Street at Main Street South
- Main Street South southbound will be open and Main Street South northbound will be closed from Queen Street to Wellington Street.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
