    Projects 18-1380 and 11-2380 - February 10, 2023 update

    Sanitary sewer replacement and improvement

Streets affected: Queen Street East and Queen Street West, Brampton

The Region of Peel is working in your area to rehabilitate the sanitary sewer along Queen Street.

Some upcoming work will take place overnight, in order to reduce traffic congestion.

This overnight work will occur on:

    • Where Queen Street East meets Scott Street and James Street,
    • Where Queen Street East meets Theatre Lane and Chapel Street,
    • Where Queen Street West meets George Street (North and South), and
    • Where Queen Street West meets Elizabeth Street (North and South).

We apologize in advance for any inconveniences caused by this work.

    Schedule

Overnight work is expected to take place five times between February 16 and March 2, 2023, at the times and locations detailed below. Additional nights may be required due to unpredictable delays, such as poor weather conditions.

    Traffic impacts

To complete this work, we will need to access manholes located within the middle lanes of Queen Street. This will require closing one eastbound and one westbound lane of Queen Street while work is underway.

Due the location of this work, turning restrictions will also be required at these dates and times:

    • Southbound traffic on Scott Street and northbound traffic on James Street will be diverted right at Queen Street East, as it will not be possible to turn left or continue straight through the intersection. These restrictions will be in place from 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 16 until 6 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023.
    • Southbound traffic on Elizabeth Street North and northbound traffic on Elizabeth Street South will not be able to turn left onto Queen Street West. These restrictions will be in place from 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 until 6 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023.
    • Southbound traffic on Theatre Lane and northbound traffic on Chapel Street will be diverted right at Queen Street East, as it will not be possible to turn left or continue straight through the intersection. These restrictions will be in place:
      • From 6 p.m. on Monday, February 27 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, and
      • From 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28 until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
    • Southbound traffic on George Street North and northbound traffic on George Street South will be diverted right at Queen Street West, as it will not be possible to turn left or continue straight through the intersection. These restrictions will be in place from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 until 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

These turning restriction impacts may cause traffic delays. We ask for your patience and will try to minimize any delays.

    Noise

We do not anticipate significant noise or vibrations above normal daytime construction levels during these operations. Efforts will be made to reduce impacts to local residents as much as possible.

    Safety during construction

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
