Projects 18-1380 and 11-2380 - December 21, 2023 update
Streets affected: Queen Street West and George Street, Brampton
Peel Region has been working in your neighbourhood to replace the watermains and sanitary sewers along Queen Street West. This work is required to maintain and improve existing water and wastewater services.
At this stage of the project, a temporary intersection road closure will be required to complete this work.
Traffic impacts
- The intersection of Queen Street West and George Street will be closed to all through traffic. This temporary road closure is expected to occur from 9 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, until as late as 7 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024. To minimize the duration of the road closure, this work will be continuous, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We will do everything possible to keep overnight noise to a minimum. Efforts will be made to reduce impacts to local residents by restricting the louder construction activities to the daytime.
- A detour route will be clearly marked with road signs. Please see the included map for the detour route. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained. The intersection will be closed to all traffic and there will be no on-street parking within the construction zone. Emergency vehicles will have access to the area at all times.
- Russell Lane will not be accessible from Queen Street West. The parking lot will be accessible from Main Street South via Buffy Lane. The loading zones on Main Street North, Main Street South and Queen Street East will be available to use for deliveries and short-term parking.
- Please expect delays and choose alternate routes. While work is actively taking place, police officers may be posted around the closure area to monitor traffic flow.
We apologize for any delays or inconvenience resulting from these traffic impacts.

Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
