Project 23-2300 E2 – February 20, 2026 update
Street affected: Rutherford Road South
Construction work in your area
Peel Region will be rehabilitating the sanitary sewer along Rutherford Road South. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your business to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet.
We’ll clean the sewer pipe and place a new resin (plastic) lining inside to extend its life. This work will be completed underground and will not require digging trenches in your area.
Construction schedule
Construction is expected to start Early March 2026, and finish by Early April 2026. These dates may change due to weather and other unexpected events.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by Capital Sewer Services Inc. under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws and help shorten the amount of time construction is in your area.
Traffic and parking
We may need to temporarily reduce traffic to a single lane. If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are working on your street.
It will be necessary to access the maintenance hole in the left lane of Rutherford Road S at Clark Boulevard. It will not be possible to turn left from Rutherford Road S onto Clark Boulevard as shown in the attached map.
During this time, traffic will be directed by police officers. The onsite contractor will guide emergency service vehicles and school buses though to Clark Boulevard.
Wastewater service interruptions
Your wastewater service pipe will be out of service for approximately 8-12 hours. Wastewater service pipes carry wastewater from your business to the sanitary sewer. This interruption allows the pipe to be repaired without digging trenches. A second notice with a date and time will be provided at least 24 hours in advance.
It is important to minimize your water use during this work:
- You may continue to wash your hands but minimize your water use.
- Do not use showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, or your washing machine.
- Keep toilet flushing to a minimum.
- This reduces the possibility of wastewater backing up into your basement or plumbing. If you have a sump pump, notify us or tell the contractor when they arrive.
Odours
You may smell odours which will go away within a few hours. You can prevent or minimize this by pouring a bucket of water down the basement floor drain and running water in all sinks, showers, and tubs for a minute, either the evening before or day of the relining work. If this is not possible (for example, if it is currently covered by flooring), we strongly recommend making it accessible before construction begins to reduce odours.
Construction safety
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
