Project 23-2261
Streets affected: Etobicoke Creek from Kennedy Road South to Derry Road East
Peel Region is planning to install a new sanitary sewer in your area within the next several years, as shown on the attached map. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home or business to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down the drain or is flushed down the toilet. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to keep providing high quality wastewater services.
We plan to construct most of the sewer by microtunnelling (installing the pipe under the ground by digging shafts and tunnelling between the shafts), but we plan to install the section east of Dixie Rd. by open-cut construction (digging a trench and installing the pipe in the trench). Construction is planned between 2026-2029.
Before construction begins
Before we start construction, you may notice several activities between October 2024 and November 2025 if you are travelling on Kennedy Road just south of Steeles Avenue, in the vicinity of the Dixie Road and Derry Road intersection, or walking along the Etobicoke Creek trail:
- We will dig holes in the ground to collect soil samples, determine ground conditions, or confirm utility locations. You may see a large truck and drill performing this activity.
- We will survey the area and use temporary spray paint or flags to mark the location of underground utilities.
- We will take pictures and record video of the surrounding area, to help us restore the area as close as possible to its former condition, after construction takes place.
Keeping you informed
We are currently in the early planning stages, so we can’t give exact dates for when we will do the work.
In addition, as your city’s future planning activities may change, we may alter our plans to improve sanitary sewers in your neighbourhood. We will deliver more detailed information to your business closer to the proposed construction date.
