    Project 22-4680

    Finch Avenue corridor improvements

    Streets affected: Finch Avenue from Highway 427 to Steeles Avenue

    What are we doing

    The work includes:

    • Road resurfacing along Finch Avenue from Highway 427 to Steeles Ave.
    • Intersection Improvement at Darcel Avenue
    • Noise wall and retaining walls construction along Finch Avenue
    • Proposed Multi Use Path (MUP) construction along Finch Avenue
    • Sidewalk improvements along Finch Avenue

    When

    • Construction Start: April 2025 – Finish: August 2025

    Working hours

    • Pacific Paving Limited has been contracted to complete the work on the Region’s behalf. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday and work may also be done on Saturdays.
    • These hours follow the city’s by-laws. Extended working hours may cause some inconvenience to the public however will help facilitate completion of the project as quickly as possible.

    Traffic control

    • The project will be phased to minimize traffic disruption while maintaining a safe working environment as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • Existing traffic flows will be maintained during construction. However, due to the nature of the work, we will need to reduce traffic lanes to a single lane (each direction) and temporarily block intersection during construction.
    • Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
    • Please use caution when travelling through the work zone.

    Driveway access

    • We will maintain driveway access as much as possible and if we need to block your driveway for a short time you will be contacted to arrange for the best time.
    • We will make sure businesses have access at all times.

    Project updates

    • The Region of Peel will keep you informed of any substantial changes in the project scope or schedule.
    • Please call the project manager if you have any special needs.

    Corridor improvements are coming to Brampton and Mississauga along Finch Avenue West from Steeles Avenue to Highway 427, with construction set to begin in early 2025. These improvements will focus on enhanced pedestrian safety, pavement resurfacing, and intersection improvement. Traffic on Finch Avenue will be maintained throughout construction and all businesses and residences will remain accessible. Additional information will be provided prior to the construction period.

    Peel Region has completed the detailed design for Finch Avenue West in the City of Mississauga and Brampton. Key construction elements include:

    • Intersection improvement at Darcel Avenue;
    • Resurfacing of the road along Finch Avenue from Steeles Avenue to Highway 427;
    • Retaining wall reconstruction at Darcel Avenue;
    • Noise wall reconstruction along Finch Avenue from the Canadian National Railway overhead pass to Darcel Avenue;
    • Public Sector Network (PSN) along Finch Avenue from Steeles Avenue to Highway 427;
    • Combination of multi-use paths and sidewalks;
    • Improved cycling and pedestrian crossings at intersections.

    The tender has currently been advertised and the project is expected to proceed to construction this spring.

    Project benefits

    The planned improvements will ensure smooth riding quality along Finch Avenue West in Mississauga and Brampton, make the street safer for all modes of transport to use and enjoy, and promote physical activity along the corridor through improved pathways and sidewalks.

    Mitigation measures

    The construction contractor will work within the established noise and vibration limits for construction prescribed by Peel Region. Noise and dust will be regularly monitored. Any night work, if required, will be subject to the appropriate permitting procedure. In areas where parking is impacted, alternative parking locations will be identified.
