Port Credit East Water and Wastewater Servicing Optimization Strategy Class Environmental Assessment
Public Information Centre (PIC) No. 3 was held in person on June 14, 2023, at Clarke Memorial Hall – Main Hall (161 Lakeshore Road West) from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Since this was the final PIC for this project, the comment period was extended until July 7, 2023 to allow additional time to receive questions, comments and feedback regarding the material presented at this PIC.
PIC No. 3 presented the preliminary preferred design concepts for the water and wastewater servicing strategies, which includes the following study components:
- New Deep Trunk Sewer on Lakeshore Road,
- New Sub-Transmission Watermain on Lakeshore Road,
- New Rosemere Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) and associated Twinned Forcemains, and
- Decommissioning of Elmwood, and Hiawatha SPS and associated Gravity Sewers.
This PIC material will remain posted on the Port Credit East project website.
The Notice of PIC No. 3 was distributed by email/mail to the study contact list and study area residents and businesses and published in the newspaper and Region social media. The following includes a summary of comments received:
- Interested stakeholders and residents signed-up to receive future project notices,
- A resident inquired whether the proposed infrastructure presented at PIC No. 3 will be enough to meet current and future growth in the next 5 years,
- A resident shared they would like to preserve as many trees as possible along Rosemere Road,
- A resident expressed their support to ensure solution adequately meet growth and future demand,
- A resident inquired about the coordination between the Region and City with regards to the planned upgrades at Marina Park and the proposed construction compound at the park,
- Public stakeholder (CLC) submitted comments as it relates to their development site at 1 Port Street East. They expressed support for the material that was presented at the event and would like to continue to be updated on the project as the proposed wastewater trunk sewer is critical to its development, and
- A resident inquired about the possibility of not removing the maple tree at the front of their house which is located within one of the proposed shaft compounds.
The Port Credit East study is being undertaken as a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal Class EA and will ensure public feedback is accepted during the prescribed milestones. This feedback was considered during the evaluation process to confirm the preferred design concept. The next step includes the preparation of the Environmental Study Report (ESR) which will undergo a 30-day public review prior to proceeding to Phase 5 (Implementation) of the Class EA process.
