Notice of study commencement – February 6, 2026
Background

As part of the Flow | Central Brampton Program, Peel Region is launching the Downtown Brampton Water and Wastewater Capacity Improvements Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study (Schedule B MCEA). This project will help ensure that the water and wastewater systems can support the additional demand expected from new high-density development planned in the downtown core and along the Queen Street corridor by 2030.
Flow | Central Brampton was established to build more water and wastewater infrastructure projects, faster, throughout Brampton. Its implementation is in response to the Province of Ontario’s commitment to build 1.5 million more homes in Ontario over the next decade—with 113,000 in Brampton.
Study area
The study area (Figure 1) for this Schedule B MCEA is in Downtown Brampton and focused around:
- The Orangeville-Brampton Railway line from Rosedale Avenue to Fletcher’s Creek Sanitary Trunk Sewer, near Corby Crescent;
- Church Street east/west from Main Street to Kennedy Road; and
- Joseph Street/Market Street from the OBR east through Duggan Park to Centre Street.
Process
This study will follow the 2024 process for a MCEA Schedule B project, which includes:
- Indigenous community, public and stakeholder consultation and engagement;
- Background studies;
- Development and evaluation of sewer and watermain route options, including impact assessment and mitigation measures; and
- Selection of the preferred sewer and watermain routes, and provision of a schedule for construction.
Your input is important – we want to hear from you
Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held to present the findings of the MCEA Schedule B study and provide opportunities to give feedback. Details of the first PIC—planned for Spring 2026—will be provided in late-February in a Notice of PIC, with additional information posted online at the link in the project update box below. A second PIC will be held in Fall 2026 with similar notification. Once the study is complete, results will be published in a Project File Report for public review and comment.
Pre-design field investigations
As part of the Flow | Central Brampton Program, and to support the environmental assessment process and preliminary design of the preferred sewer and watermain route options, field investigations will be taking place in your area (see below for details on the planned work). In the coming months, we will be surveying your street and using temporary spray paint or flags on roads, driveways, and lawns to locate underground gas, hydro, and cable.
- We may drill holes within the railway easement and municipal owned right-of-way using a borehole rig machine to collect soil samples and determine ground conditions.
- We will take pictures and videos to help restore the area as close as possible to its former condition, after the investigations are complete.
Field Investigation schedule
We expect these activities to happen between February and September 2026. These dates may change due to weather and other unexpected events.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by multiple consultants under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws.
Traffic impacts
There may be minor traffic disruptions during these activities. If this is needed, we’ll place signs with directions.
Temporary closures
While the Orangeville-Brampton Railway corridor is marked with “No Trespassing” signs, we are advising residents to not enter the railway corridor at any time to ensure public safety.
Important note
Field Investigations will take place in the municipal right-of-way and within easements.
- The municipal right-of-way includes the street and the municipal-owned land between the street and the water service box, a small, round, metal valve located outside on the property line between your home or business and the road.
An easement is where Peel Region has legal access to enter your property to maintain and improve Peel’s infrastructure.
