    Master Plan for Peel’s Groundwater

    Based Drinking Water Systems

Peel Region is responsible for the provision of municipal drinking water in several communities within the Town of Caledon. Municipal drinking water servicing is provided to ten (10) villages, hamlets and rural service centres in the Caledon area, through four (4) groundwater-based drinking water systems. Groundwater is the source of supply for well-based systems. Peel owns and operates municipal production wells located in Alton, Caledon Village, Caledon East, Palgrave, Cheltenham, and Inglewood.
Peel is initiating a Master Plan for its Groundwater-based Drinking Water Systems to support the overall Official Plan goals of providing sustainable infrastructure and services to support a diverse and growing population and economy. The Master Plan will ensure there is enough infrastructure capacity in the serviced areas of the Town of Caledon, to ensure adequate level of service and to accommodate planned growth in these areas to 2051.

The Master Plan for the Groundwater-based Drinking Water Systems is anticipated to be completed in 2025 and will:

    • Align with the latest Regional Official Plan population and employment forecasts to 2051.
    • Include collaboration with the local municipality, Town of Caledon, to identify priority growth areas.
    • Assess potential growth beyond the 2051 planning horizon for long-term infrastructure planning purposes.

The study will follow the 2023 Municipal Engineers Association Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Master Planning, Approach 1 process. The study will:

    • Satisfy Phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA process, including developing and evaluating alternative drinking water servicing strategies.
    • Consider public and stakeholder input throughout the process.
    • Conclude with a Master Servicing Plan Report that will be filed for public review.

    Your input is important

Two (2) Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held at key points in the study to present the findings of the Master Plan Study and to provide an opportunity to give feedback to the project team.

PIC No. 1: Spring 2024 – Date to be announced at a later date.
