Charleston Sideroad between Kennedy and Main Street/Highway 136
Complete Corridor Study and Preliminary Design
Peel Region is undertaking a Complete Corridor Study to transform Charleston Sideroad from Kennedy Road to Main Street/Highway 136 within the Town of Caledon. The goal of the study is to upgrade the corridor into a “complete street” that accommodates all modes of transportation, including walking, cycling, and driving, while improving safety and the overall road operations.
Study objectives to support infrastructure needs include:
- Transportation Design Solutions: Develop implementable design solutions to improve intersection operations and road user safety.
- Active Transportation: Incorporate pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, potentially including multi-use paths, sidewalks, and bike lanes, physically separated from vehicle traffic.
- Speed Reduction: Explore measures to reduce vehicular speeds and improve safety for all users.
- Supporting Infrastructure: Address resurfacing needs, storm infrastructure upgrades, and improvements to street lighting and structural assets such as bridges and culverts.
Community involvement
Although the Study is exempt from Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (2023) process, there will be upcoming opportunities for Indigenous Communities, Regulatory Agencies, other stakeholders, and the public to provide feedback.
