Lower child care fees for families who use child care
To receive lower child care fees, children must be enrolled in a licensed centre or home child care program that is participating in the CWELCC plan.

Who's eligible
Children in participating infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, mixed age group or licensed home child care programs who meet this age criteria are eligible:
- Children who turn 6 years old between January and June, are eligible until June 30 of that year.
- Children who turn 6 years old between July 1 and December 31 are eligible until the end of the month they turn 6.
Children in a participating school-age program at a licensed child care centre are eligible only until the end of the month they turn 6 years old.
Reducing your fees
If you have a child of eligible age and your child care provider chooses to participate in CWELCC and is approved, you will see the following reductions:
- As of January 1, 2023, child care fees are 52.75% lower for families paying full fees for child care or 50% if you receive help to pay for child care.
- Starting January 2025, the maximum daily fee for families will be $22. If your current child care fees are higher, it will be reduced to $22 a day.
The $22 a day includes all costs families are required to pay for child care, including registration fees and any other one-time or recurring fees that are mandatory.
As a parent or caregiver of a child younger than 6 years of age you do not need to apply to get lower fees. If your child care provider is not enrolled in the CWELCC plan, your fees will not be reduced.
Even with lower child care fees, some families still cannot afford child care. If you need support to pay your child care costs, check if you qualify for our subsidy program.

If your child care provider chooses to not participate
Child care providers must let families know if they decide to no longer participate in the CWELCC plan. They must let families know at least 45 days before leaving the plan.
Families with children eligible for fee reductions can choose to withdraw their children from that provider without any penalty, if they provide notice based on the timing outlined in their parent handbook.
