Child Care Subsidy Parent Agreement
As part of receiving child care subsidy, you are agreeing to these responsibilities.
Child care subsidy eligibility
To be eligible for child care subsidy, you must:
- Live in Peel Region and have a child 12 years or younger.
- Meet the income criteria based on your Notice of Assessment.
- Have an approved reason for care such as working (including self-employment), going to school, have a social or medical need confirmed by a designated professional, or, have a child participating in Peel Inclusion Resource Services.
Income criteria
Your eligibility for child care subsidy is based on your most recent tax assessment and how much you will pay for child care.
You must file your income tax each year by April 30 and provide your current Notice of Assessment (NOA) or Canada Child Benefit (CCB) notice when asked for it or your child care subsidy may end.
Changes in your situation
Reporting changes is the best way to keep your child care subsidy file up to date and to avoid an overpayment. You need to report all changes in your situation within 2 weeks using your Children’s Services account such as:
- Changes to your employer, work days, hours, or shift, if you start or stop a business, if you’re off work, on leave or no longer working.
- Changes to your school schedule, course load, program, if you’re dropping courses, have completed your semester or program, or you’re no longer attending school.
- You change child care locations, or you will be registering your child for care during school breaks.
- Your child no longer needs care, needs different care, or will not need care during school breaks.
- You’re getting married, becoming common-law, living with a partner, separated, or divorced.
- You’re having a baby, or your custody arrangements change.
- You moved to a new address, or your email or phone number changed.
- The Canada Revenue Agency reassessed your income tax or Canada Child Benefit.
- You start or stop receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program payments.
- Your child will be away for 4 weeks or more.
Refer to while receiving child care subsidy for more information about changes in your situation.
Overpayments
An overpayment is money you have to pay back to Peel Region because you received subsidy you were not eligible to receive. Overpayments usually happen when you don’t report changes in your situation so remember to report all changes.
If you are re-applying for subsidy, you have to be making monthly repayments to any overpayment you have with us or pay any outstanding fees to your child care provider.
What you pay for child care
This is also called your Parent Fee or Parent Contribution. We will tell you and your child care provider in writing any amount you need to pay for child care. You will pay this full amount directly to your child care provider on the day they require it.
Child care subsidy does not cover any registration fees, deposits, or extra curricular activities your child care provider charges. You are responsible for these fees.
Days your child is away from care
Your child can be absent from care if they are sick or for other health-related reasons (such as therapy and medical appointments). For all other absences, including vacation, your child can be absent for a maximum of 60 days per calendar year. You must continue to pay your parent fee to your provider for any days your child is absent for any reason.
If your child is absent from care for more than 60 days, you must pay the full cost of these extra days to your child care provider. Remember the full cost of child care is more than your parent fee if you have one. We will tell you and your child care provider when you have to start paying the full cost.
Tell your Children’s Services Worker if your child will be away for 4 weeks or more.
Leaving your child care provider
If your child is leaving their current child care provider for any reason, tell your Children’s Service Worker at least 2 weeks before the child’s last day. Remember to also tell your child care provider according to their withdrawal notice policy.
Appealing decisions
If you do not agree with a decision about your child care subsidy, you can appeal it within 30 days of the decision using the child care subsidy appeal form. If you would like to speak to a Supervisor of Child Care Subsidy, contact us or tell your Children’s Services Worker that you want to speak to a Supervisor.
Your child care provider’s policies
Remember to also follow the policies and requirements of your child care provider, including their attendance and withdrawal policy.
Annual review
Your child care subsidy approval is for up to 1 year. Before the end of the year, you have to requalify for the program. We will send you an email when it is time for your annual review telling you what information to submit and when it is due.
