The following is a report of outbreaks at health care institutions in Peel. This report is posted daily and summarizes all currently active outbreaks and outbreaks that have been declared over since the last posting. The information in this status report is accurate at the date and time of posting.

Responsibilities of Peel Public Health
Under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Peel Public Health (PPH) is required to investigate all reports of suspected and confirmed outbreaks. PPH assists these institutions in implementing appropriate infection control measures to diminish the severity and length of any outbreak that they experience. PPH also works with collaboratively with institutions to proactively prevent and control outbreaks and implement infection prevention and control best practices.
Outbreaks in Peel are monitored Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Updates are posted when new information is available.

Explanatory Notes:
Outbreaks on this list are under investigation in institutions for one of the following general reasons:
- Respiratory Outbreaks (including COVID-19):as of October 2024,Two or more patient/resident cases a of test-confirmed acute respiratory infections (ARI) with symptom onset within 48 hours and an epidemiological link (e.g. same unit/floor/service area) suggestive of transmission within the setting. OR three or more patient/resident cases of ARI with symptom onset within 48 hours and an epidemiological link suggestive of transmission within the setting AND testing is not available or all negative.
- Gastroenteritis Outbreaks:Two or more cases meeting the case definition with a common epidemiological link (e.g., specific unit or floor, same caregiver) with initial onset within a 48-hour period.
- Other Outbreaks: Cases of non-respiratory or non-gastroenteritis illness or asymptomatic carriage/colonization of a confirmed organism occurring at a rate exceeding the normally expected baseline rate for the facility (or unit/floor/ward) during a specific period of time.
Criteria for Removing Outbreak from List: Outbreaks are removed from the list when upon further investigation, an outbreak does not exist, or the outbreak has been declared over. All outbreaks are declared over in consultation with Peel Health.
