    Join the Lived Experience Roundtable

    We are looking for community members with lived or living experience of poverty to join the Lived Experience Roundtable.

    The Peel Poverty Reduction Committee is currently recruiting up to 20 participants from across Peel (Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga) who are passionate about using their experiences to help inform and influence poverty reduction efforts in Peel.

    About the Lived Experience Roundtable

    The Lived Experience Roundtable brings together people in Peel who have lived or are living in poverty. Members use their experiences to help shape the work of the Peel Poverty Reduction Committee and make sure that real voices and stories guide action.

    As a member you will:

    • Help raise awareness about poverty and the Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy.
    • Support the committee’s advocacy and awareness work.
    • Share your experiences and ideas to help improve programs, services and policies in Peel.
    • Encourage others in the community to get involved in poverty reduction efforts.

    Eligibility

    We value diverse voices and experiences. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds who want to help create change in our community.

    To join, you must have lived or living experience of poverty.

    You may also identify with one or more of the listed:

    • Live in the Peel (Brampton, Caledon, or Mississauga).
    • Receive or have received Ontario Works in the last 3 years.
    • Are a senior.
    • Are a single parent.
    • Are a 2-parent family with children younger than 18 years of age.
    • Are a youth.
    • Live with a disability.
    • Are new to Canada (have lived here for 5 years or less).
    • Are an international student.
    • Identify as part of one or more of these communities: racialized group, 2SLGBTQ+ community, or Indigenous community.

    Why get involved

    • You want to make a real difference in your community by helping improve programs, services, and policies in Peel.
    • You want to use your voice and experience to influence change.
    • You'll gain training and opportunities to build new skills.
    • Participants will receive an honorarium for their contributions.

    Your requirements

    • A commitment of up to 2 years on the roundtable.
    • Participation in mandatory training and orientation.
    • Attendance at meetings, mostly virtual, with occasional in-person sessions as needed.
    • Involvement in community consultations, events, or activities throughout the year.

    How to apply

    • Complete the application.
    • If selected, you will be invited to a virtual interview.
    • Successful candidates may also be invited to a group interview.
    • Final selected members will need to attend an in-person orientation.
