Early years and child care
We’re committed to providing families with child care that’s high quality, accessible, inclusive, and affordable.
The Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system is expected to improve affordability for Peel families. Peel Region will work closely with the provincial government to ensure that our unique challenges and local needs are considered.
Actions we’re taking
The availability of affordable child care is critical to a thriving economy.
A safe and viable child care system will also be a critical aspect of the pandemic recovery efforts of both the provincial and federal governments
Peel Region is advocating for:
- Fair and flexible funding that recognizes Peel’s rapid growth, diversity, and higher child care costs.
- Ongoing funding to ensure that the Early Childhood Educator workforce is adequate enough to safeguard accessible, affordable child care for Peel families.
- Provincial funding to expand licensed child care spaces in order to address a potential shortage of spaces and avoid waitlists.
- Policy and legislative changes to ensure vulnerable families can access $10 per day child care.
