Annual Accessibility Status Report highlights the “new normal”
Peel Region released its latest Annual Accessibility Status Report – Navigating the New Normal – in June 2023.
The report:
- Highlights the initiatives we took and the achievements we made in 2022 to improve accessibility in Peel.
- Describes the progress and measures we’ve taken to remove barriers and improve accessibility while implementing the requirements set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA).
- Outlines the progress we made in 2022 to implement our 2018 - 2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
- Is a testament to our vision of a Community for Life, a place where everyone enjoys a sense of belonging and has access to services, programs, and facilities that meet their needs.
After 2 years of COVID-19 pandemic response, 2022 presented itself as a year of hope and moving forward. While we kept responding to the challenges caused by the pandemic, we also prepared to leave the acute phase of the pandemic behind.
This report outlines how we removed barriers and made Peel more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities while learning to navigate the new, post-pandemic normal.
The pandemic highlighted the needs of vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities. We worked with residents and partners to ensure programs and services continued to meet the needs of our community following the pandemic.
We cannot achieve full inclusion without accessibility. By applying an accessibility lens to all of Peel Region’s programs and services, we’ll ensure that the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities are always taken into account.
