Notice of application of larvicide for mosquito control in Peel region

Peel Region will be completing larviciding in Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga from May 13 to September 30.

Peel Region, under the authority of the Acting Medical Officer of Health, will conduct a program to control mosquito larvae (immature mosquitoes) in stagnant water to prevent their development into carriers of West Nile Virus. The program will be carried out in Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga.

The larvicide Altosid Pellets (PCP #21809, pellet), Altosid Granules (PCP# 22676), or VectoLex WSP (PCP #28009, pouch) registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada), will be placed into catch basins of storm drains along municipal and regional roads, and in catch basins on private properties as requested.

The larvicide VectoBac 1200L (PCP #21062, liquid) and VectoBac 200G (PCP#18158, Granular) registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada) will be applied to selected bodies of surface water (such as ditches and ponds), depending on the results of testing for the presence of mosquito larvae.

Larviciding applications will be carried out under permit from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. All larvicides will be applied by licensed applicators or technicians of G.D.G. Canada under contract to Peel Region.
