Peel Region continues to adopt a compassionate and responsive approach to challenges associated with asylum claimants.

Actions we're taking

We're calling on the federal and provincial governments to:

Sustain settlement funding with multi-year commitments.
Stronger federal-provincial coordination, including the continuation of the Interim Housing Assistance Program (IHAP) beyond April 2027, as well as improved federal data sharing.
Housing and employment support in order to increase housing assistance, address rental discrimination, speed up work permit and SIN processing, and identify settlement locations with job and housing availability.
Support for nonprofits by providing stable operational funding and workforce development supports to help community agencies meet rising demand.
