Peel continues to adopt a compassionate and responsive approach to the significant increase in the number of asylum claimants.
We require sustainable funding to alleviate the current pressure in the Region’s emergency shelter system and to successfully integrate asylum claimants into communities.
Actions we're taking
We're calling on the federal and provincial governments to:
- Support a proposed system aimed at transitioning claimants to other areas with the necessary support services.
- Provide funding that follows asylum claimants, so participating municipalities have the funding required to provide exits out of the shelter system.
