Truck restrictions in the Town of Caledon
Peel Region has introduced truck restrictions in parts of Caledon to improve road safety, support construction work, and reduce traffic impacts in local communities.

- Blue shows roads where trucks are restricted during certain hours.
- Purple shows roads where trucks are restricted all days, local deliveries are allowed.

Affected areas
Caledon East – full truck restriction – July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027
Peel Region will be reconstructing the Centreville Creek Bridge and installing storm sewers along Airport Road.
This work will require:
- A full road closure from July 6, 2026 to September 7, 2026. NOTE: This full road closure applies to ALL traffic
- A full restriction on all commercial trucks on the following roads:
- Airport Road (between King Street and Charleston Sideroad)
- Old Church Road (between Highway 50 and Airport Road)
The truck restriction is effective 7 days a week, at all hours.
Access is allowed for local deliveries.
Reason for the restriction
During construction, lane reductions, temporary signals, and active work zones create conditions that are not suitable for heavy truck traffic. Large trucks navigating these conditions would pose a safety risk to both the travelling public and construction crews.
The full, temporary closure is required during the current phase of construction, as there is no practical detour for large trucks through this corridor leaving trucks with no option other than passing through the work zone.
Alton – one-year, time-of-day prohibition pilot - July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027
This one-year pilot in the village of Alton aims to improve community safety, reduce noise, and support a more pedestrian-friendly environment.
This work applies to Porterfield Road / Queen Street East / Main Street (Regional Road 136), from Charleston Sideroad (Regional Road 24) to Dufferin County Road 109.
Trucks prohibition schedule – including local delivery – are not allowed:
- Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- At any time on weekends and holidays.
Trucks are allowed on weekdays outside these restricted hours.
Reason for the pilot
The Alton one-year pilot responds to concerns raised by residents about the volume of truck traffic in the community.
Most trucks traveling through Alton do not serve local destinations, with only a small number beginning or ending trips in the village. This has raised concerns about safety, noise, and the overall character of the area.
The pilot is intended to reduce the impact of truck traffic during the busiest and most sensitive times of day, while still allowing trucks to use these roads outside of restricted hours. This approach balances community well-being with the needs of truck drivers and businesses.
