Transition Board’s new mandate
January 25, 2024, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing shared with Peel Region the new mandate and scope of the Transition Board.

Peel will not be dissolved
December 13, 2023, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing announced that Peel Region would not be dissolved, and that new legislation would be introduced to recalibrate the mandate of the Transition Board focusing on making Peel Region more efficient and responsive to taxpayers.

Financial audit
The Ontario government announced on December 13, 2023 that discussions with partners will continue but they are terminating the ongoing audit for Peel Region and 5 other municipalities.

2019 Regional Government Review
In early 2019, the Ontario government conducted the Regional Government Review to examine the governance, decision-making, and service delivery functions of 8 regional municipalities and their lower-tier municipalities. This included Peel Region, Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga.
