Notice of Intention to pass a by-law to designate an enhanced voting member during certain vacancies on Regional Council
The Council of the Regional Municipality of Peel will hold a public meeting pursuant to section 219(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, for the purpose of obtaining input from the public to consider the matter of its intention to pass a by-law to designate council members entitled to cast additional votes during certain vacancies on Regional Council.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Council of the Regional Municipality of Peel will hold a public meeting pursuant to section 219(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, for the purpose of obtaining input from the public to consider the matter of its intention to pass a by-law to designate council members entitled to cast additional votes during certain vacancies on Regional Council.
The proposed by-law would entitle a local municipality with a vacant seat on Regional Council to appoint, by resolution, a member of its local council to act as a Designated Enhanced Voting Member entitled to cast two votes at Regional Council meetings during the period of the vacancy, provided certain circumstances exist, as outlined in the proposed by-law.
The by-law, if passed, would not come into effect until the new Council is organized following the next regular election in 2026.
