Watermain and sanitary sewer replacement downtown Brampton
Brampton, ON. (August 10, 2023) – Peel Region has been working in downtown Brampton to replace the aging watermain and sanitary sewer along Queen St. and Main St. to maintain and improve existing water and wastewater services.
This work is taking place in stages, moving north from Main St. South through the intersection at Main St. and Queen St., and then continuing north along Main St. North.
It will be necessary to temporarily close some major intersections to complete this work. Please expect delays and choose alternate routes if possible.
Traffic impacts:
- The intersection of Main St. and Queen St. will be closed to all traffic. This temporary road closure will occur from 7 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023, until as late as 7 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023.
- To minimize the duration of the road closure, this work will continue, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, on evenings with events taking place at Garden Square, there will be no construction. We will do everything possible to keep overnight noise to a minimum. Efforts will be made to reduce impacts to residents by restricting the louder construction activities to the daytime.
- A detour route will be clearly marked with road signs. Please see the map attached for the detour route.
- Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained. But the intersection will be closed to all traffic and there will be no on-street parking within the construction zone.
While work is actively taking place, police officers may be posted around the closure area to monitor traffic flow. We apologize for any delays or inconvenience resulting from these traffic impacts.
