Watermain and Sanitary Sewer Replacement
Brampton, ON (May 8, 2023) - Peel Region has been working in downtown Brampton to replace the aging watermain and sanitary sewer along Queen St. to maintain and improve existing water and wastewater services.
At this stage in the project, we are replacing the watermain and sanitary sewer under Main St. South. This work is starting Wednesday May 10, 2023, and will last for approximately three months, depending on weather and soil conditions. Please expect delays and choose alternate routes if possible.
Traffic impacts:
- Northbound Main St. South closed to all through traffic from Wellington St. to Queen St. A detour route will be clearly marked with road signs. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained. No through traffic will be allowed and there will be no on-street parking.
- Southbound Main St. South will remain open but reduced to one lane from just north of Queen St. to Wellington St.
- We will dig a temporary trench on Main St. South from Wellington St to Queen St. For this reason, it will not be possible to turn left (east) from Main St. South onto Wellington St. East.
- The current one-way traffic on John St. will be converted to two-way traffic that can be accessible from Chapel St. The loading zones on John St. will be removed and additional loading zones/short term parking will be added to Queen St. for businesses.
- Detour routes may be adjusted for upcoming special events in the summer. Emergency service vehicles will be permitted to cross through the closure with guidance from the onsite contractor.
