Regional Council modifies the date of transfer of waste collection services to local municipalities to October 2027
Brampton, ON - (Sept 15, 2025) - Peel Regional Council has approved a revised date of October 1, 2027, to transfer waste collection services from Peel Region to the City of Mississauga, City of Brampton, and Town of Caledon.
Under the transfer arrangement, the three municipalities will assume responsibility for curbside and multi-residential waste collection. Peel Region will retain responsibility for Community Recycling Centres (CRCs), as well as transfer, processing, and waste disposal services.
A transition committee, including representatives from Peel, Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon, have been actively working at the transfer process and defining future operational and service delivery, employee transition, financial planning and cost-sharing considerations.
The new transfer date is aligned with the end of the current waste collection contracts, which expire on September 30, 2027.
There are no immediate changes to the public related to this date change. Further communication will be issued closer to the time of transition.
Peel Region will continue to collaborate with our municipal partners to ensure a seamless transfer of waste collection at the right time, without service disruption to the community.
Nando Iannicca, Peel Regional Chair and CEO.
