Brampton, ON. (June 12, 2023) - Schools from across Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon came together to participate in the 25th year of the Peel Children’s Water Festival. Students in grade 2 - 5 had the opportunity to discover facts about water, wastewater, waste, transportation, planning, and the environment by participating in over 50 hands-on interactive activities.

Over the course of the week, 56 elementary schools with over 4000 students reflected on how their behaviour can impact the environment in a positive and negative way. Participants take home learnings about how to conserve water, what not to flush down the toilet and, how to properly sort their waste.

Students also played games about safety, such as how pollutants can impact our water systems as well as pedestrian and cycling safety on roads.

The success of the festival was made possible by the 484 high school volunteers who gained valuable leadership skills, as well as support from Peel staff, municipal partners, and other external agencies.

Since 1996, the Peel's Children’s Water Festival has educated more then 120,000 students.

It was amazing to see the excitement on the children’s faces. I was so proud of the Peel team for organizing the event and for all the volunteers who participated. Having an opportunity to teach children the importance of our environmental resources on such a large scale is wonderful.

Commissioner of Public Works, Kealy Dedman
