Peel’s 2025 Budget discussions continue: presentation highlights from Nov. 28

BRAMPTON, ON (December 2, 2024) - Last Thursday at Regional Council, the proposed 2025 Operating and Capital Budgets for Housing Support, and Paramedic Services were presented. An economic update was also provided by Avery Shenfeld, Managing Director and Chief Economist at CIBC Capital Markets, where he shared the current economic backdrop, and provided an outlook on Canadian growth, interest rates, housing, and labour markets.

Service Budget Highlights

Housing Support

  • Building more community and supportive housing
  • Enhancing the outreach program, expanding/improving the shelter system, and increasing access to subsidies for persons experiencing homelessness
  • Improving collaboration between health and housing systems integration
  • Maintaining the state of good repair of the Peel Living housing stock
  • Advocacy to other levels of government for policy, program, and funding improvements
  • Collaboration with local municipalities to better align and coordinate funding and programming
  • 2025-2028 Housing Support Business Plan and 2025 Budget

Paramedic Services

  • Improving collaboration between health and housing systems integration
  • Maintaining the state of good repair of the Peel Living housing stock
  • Advocacy to other levels of government for policy, program, and funding improvements

Next steps

On Dec. 5, the Regional Council budget meeting will continue with presentations for Water and Wastewater, Public Health, Seniors Services, Community Investment, Waste Management, Transportation, and Heritage, Arts and Culture. Two of the Regionally Financed External Organizations, Credit Valley Conservation, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, will also present.

The Regional Council Budget meeting(s) are open to the public and residents may attend. The meetings will also be live streamed on peelregion.ca.
