Peel Region’s Davis Centre Receives Funding to Expand Emotion-Based Care
CALEDON, ON (March 2, 2026) – Peel Region was proud to welcome Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon, to the Vera M. Davis Centre in Bolton where she echoed an announcement from the Ministry of Long-Term Care regarding Ontario’s $9 million investment over three years to support the new Improving Dementia Care Program (IDCP), which will help improve the quality of life for residents and strengthen Ontario’s long-term care system.
With this investment, Davis Centre will become the first in Peel to implement the emotion-based care model across the entire Centre, ensuring care prioritizes dignity, connection, and meaningful engagement for residents living with dementia.
Peel Region is a recognized leader in emotion-based care. Partnering with Meaningful Care Matters since 2017, Peel Region now has seven Butterfly-certified long-term care home areas and five Butterfly-certified Adult Day Services programs. Peel Region has also trained more than 780 Peel Paramedics in emotion-based care principles and embedded this approach within our Behavioural Support Units.
With one in five Peel residents expected to be over 65 by 2041, and 65% of long-term care residents already living with dementia, investments like these are critical. Emotion-based care is improving quality of life, symptoms related to depression, and social engagement for people living with dementia in our Centres.
On behalf of Peel Region, I want to thank the Ontario government for this investment in seniors and dementia care. This IDCP funding will allow us to expand the proven benefits of emotion-based care and further enhance the quality of life for residents living with dementia. With the Vera M. Davis Centre becoming the first Long Term Care Centre in Peel to implement this model across the entire home, Peel Region continues to strengthen its leadership in emotion-based care.
