Peel Region reminds residents to clear snow from fire hydrants
BRAMPTON, ON (February 2, 2026) — With the recent record-breaking snowfall, Peel Region is asking you to protect your neighbourhood by clearing the snow from the fire hydrants in front of your property.
In case of a fire, firefighters can respond faster, and you will be safer if the hydrant can be easily seen from the road. It can also take longer to hook up to the hydrant if it is covered in snow.
In addition to ensuring the hydrant at the front of your property is clear of snow, there are some other ways you can help keep your neighbourhood safe and clear during the winter.
- Follow your city or town’s parking restrictions, as parked cars can block snow-clearing equipment and emergency vehicles.
- Keep snow on your property and avoid shoveling it onto cleared roadways, as this can create hazards for drivers.
- Shovel the sidewalk around your property and ensure it is free of ice to prevent slips and falls.
Call Peel Region at 905-791-7800 if you are physically unable to clear your fire hydrant.
Peel maintains 30,000 fire hydrants in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the Town of Caledon.
We understand that significant snowstorms, like the ones we recently had, can impact everyone. We appreciate the community’s support in clearing around hydrants to support firefighting efforts.
