Brampton, ON. (March 23, 2023) – Today, Peel announced that employees of Peel Region and Peel Regional Police Service raised almost $290,000 in support of United Way Greater Toronto in their 2022 campaigns. For the 20th year, staff exceeded the campaign fundraising goal, this year by almost $70,000, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to supporting Peel’s communities.

A cheque for $288,270 was presented to Daniele Zanotti, President and CEO of United Way Greater Toronto, at Peel Regional Council today. Presenting the cheque on behalf of Peel employees was Regional Chair Nando Iannicca.

These funds support United Way in delivering services that meet the urgent needs of Peel residents who have been starkly affected by economic downturns, unaffordability and the inequities that divide our community.

Peel is one of United Way’s longest-standing partners with more than 40 years of continual fundraising history.

On February 26, Peel was recognized as a United Way Greater Toronto 2023 Local Leader for contributions made in 2022. Through these donations, Peel employees help mend the gaps in our social safety net and unite under a worthy cause.

The 2022 United Way Employee Campaign was led by Campaign Chair, Jacqueline Dixon, and a Campaign Committee comprised of dedicated employees from across the organization.

United Way Greater Toronto supports 81 agencies that deliver more than 100 programs to communities across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Last year, over 300,000 Peel residents received a helping hand from United Way Greater Toronto.

I’m always impressed by the generous spirit and passion shown by Peel’s employees year after year. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of everyone who participated in the United Way Employee Campaign. Together we are helping to make our community more accessible to those facing inequality and poverty at a time when it’s needed most.

Nando Iannicca, Peel Regional Chair.

I’m so proud of the generosity and dedication showed by Peel’s employees throughout this year’s campaign. It’s heartwarming to see the impact of coming together with such enthusiasm to support this great cause. Thank you to everyone from every corner of the organization who participated and helped make the campaign a resounding success.

Janice Baker, Peel Chief Administrative Officer.

For over 40 years, Peel Region has answered the call from United Way, joining in our fight against local poverty. Now, as more people and families across Peel struggle to make ends meet, fill the fridge and keep a roof over their head, this record generosity from Peel and Peel Police will support more than 90 United Way-funded programs across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. The staff and volunteers who took on this challenge help ensure our families, friends and neighbours have the services they need, close to home. Because for Peel to be great, it must be great for all.

Daniele Zanotti, President and CEO, United Way Greater Toronto.
